sony hdtv resolutions

Is my HDTV which has a resolution of 1280×720 better than a 1336×786 resolution HDTV??
I have a 2006 Sony Bravia Rear Projection LCD TV. Is it better than other HD sets (other than 1920×1080) because it doesnt have to do any scaling if using 720p??? Also my TV doesnt have a HD Ready Sticker on it?? Is it still HD??? ![]()
Plus it is a 42” TV
Do you mean 1366×768!
I think a native resolution of 1280×720 would be slightly better, but not by much.
1280×720 and 1366×768 both have the exact same aspect ratio (1280/720=1366/768=1.78). The screen width is 1.78 times larger than the height.
I wondered about the 1366×768 resolution for a while. From the source I listed below, “This has to do with a 1 megapixel processing boundary of easily available chipsets for VRAM ( video memory ) and video processing display drivers. Its a standard memory size of importance to chip makers”. 1024*1024~1366×768. They squeezed as many pixels into a display as easily would fit with the cheaper chipsets (cheaper than 1080 anyway). 1024×1024 = 1,048,576 is smaller than 1366×768 = 1,049,088 so some pixels need to be thrown out if that reference is 100% accurate. That’s a difference of 512 pixels (about 1/2 line); if it was me and I was faced with what to do with the incoming data before storing it in the pixel buffers is to adjust the top and bottom line such that every two pixels displayed the average of those two pixels.
Anyway, 720p gets upscaled to 1366×768 and 1080i gets downscaled to 1366×768.
It’s really a win-win for everyone. You get to buy a higher resolution than 720 set for much less money than a 1080 set and it still looks great.
