How do I output from a Vaio to a Samsung LCD at higher resolution?

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ240p with a max resolution of 1280 x 800 (NVIDIA Graphics GeForce Go 7400 card). I have a new Samsung LCD HDTV 1080p 46″ with 120hz and max resolution of about 1920px wide!

How can I get my computer to output to a higher resolution? Sony doesn’t have any updates to my graphics card (since 2006) and I have to use Sony’s site to download drivers. Nvidia’s site has NO information at all on my card. Samsung has no information or drivers for me for this.

Please help! I want to use my TV (Monitor)’s max resolution when my PC is plugged into it (to surf the web and watch downloaded movies, view photos, etc).
I use a VGA to VGA cable.
In response to the 2nd response, that is exactly what’s happening. I’m stuck with “expanding the monitor” rather than replacing it. I can’t figure out how to turn off my vaio monitor and use ONLY the Samsung LCD TV. If I could figure that out, I bet I could get that 1920px resolution! I know Nvidia does support it.

The NVIDIA graphics hardware can support the resolution you want 1920×1080 the refresh rate may not be supported (120Hz). One problem that you have already found is that the driver may not allow you to set that resolution and NVIDIA will not provide a driver for notebooks to the end user only the manufacture of the notebook. In this case Sony. I can only think of one more thing to try but you have done about all you can short of bugging Sony to updated the driver but I wouldn’t expect them to be concerned about supporting a notebook they released 2 years ago because they aren’t trying to sell them now…

One other thing to try is selecting the external display as you only monitor and disable the laptop screen then try to change the resolution. Sometimes with laptops it will force the external display to be the same resolution as the built in display.
